Collectable Phonecards

Collecting phonecards

Phonecards are thought of as a modern phenomenon so it comes as a surprise to many that there is a growing band of collectors of these items. The first phonecards are believed to have been released in Italy in 1975, so they already have a history of nearly 40 years.

Besides the standard phonecards produced for phone companies, there have been many special issues for sporting events and to celebrate particular events. Some large companies have issued phonecards with their own special design to employees only, making them quite scarce and highly collectable.

Always go for phonecards in excellent condition and ideally cards that are unused. Remember that new cards being issued now could become tomorrow's collectables. How many new cards will be designed and issued for the 2012 Olympics?
