Discontinued Collectibles Guide

About Accumulations

In one form or another we have been established since 1992, when Chris Eley started a part time retirement business for a "bit of fun".

Chris set up stalls at Wimborne and Dorchester Markets in Dorset, dealing in general bric-a-brac. As an enthusiastic Poole Pottery collector himself, it naturally followed that he found himself dealing more and more with Poole Pottery. He quickly established a name for himself as a Poole specialist, and more and more people started to ask him to seek out and reserve for them missing pieces from their discontinued dinner services.

This was the birth of The Poole Pottery Replacement Service, which still operates today under its new name of The Poole Pottery, Hornsea, Denby and Royal Doulton Replacement Service. As time passed Chris found that he was also being asked to find other makes of china and pottery. The most common request was for Denby. So in 1997, his son Mike started a business to run along side his, called The Denby & Poole Pottery Replacement Service. Mike dealt with the Denby, and all the Poole business generated was outsourced to Chris.

In 1999, due to customer demand The Denby & Poole Pottery Replacement Service opened it's doors to those customers looking for any other make of china or pottery including decorative and collectable items. To reflect this wider service the name of the business was changed to The China Detectives, who would search for for all makes, including, Adams, Adderley, Aynsley, Booths, Branksome, Copeland Spode, Coalport, Colclough, Crown Derby, Denby, Haviland, Hornsea, Johnson Bros, Langley, Limoges, Masons, Meakin, Marks & Spencer, Midwinter, Minton, Myott, Noritake, Palissy, Paragon, Purbeck, Poole, Portmerrion, Ridgway, Royal Albert, Royal Doulton, Spode, Susie Cooper, TG Green, Wade, Wedgwood, Royal Worcester and so on.

In March 2000 The China Detectives opened their first warehouse and just over a year later they found themselves taking on additional space and staff. The business continued to thrive for another 4 years until, on the 4th February 2004, The China Detectives was purchased by their friends and rivals, Chinasearch.

One of the factors behind The China Detectives success was their strong presence on eBay and the customer loyalty they built up therein. While The China Detectives was now under the new ownership of Chinasearch, Mike continued to source and sell discontinued tableware and collectibles through eBay, under the user id AccumulationsUK. This was the birth of Accumulations.

Today Mike still lists the occasional piece of tableware, and the odd collectable on eBay, but this is more of a hobby now, as he is now the Managing Director of an exciting web design and development company BizGen Ltd (also our sponsors).

In the meantime, his father Chris, continues to own and run his own tableware replacement service. While he still specialises in Poole Pottery, Denby, Hornsea and Royal Doulton, he will happily look for any make of discontinued tableware. The service provided is excellent and he has established a reputation for short waiting times and high quality replacements. Furthermore, he now offers a full ecommerce shopping site at where customers can purchase replacements for their discontinued tableware online.

Please note that Accumulations is not a china matching/replacement service. We do not take lists of peoples requirements and we only sell through eBay. If you are seeking a replacement china service, click here or try our links page.
